A number of factors have contributed to the change in the way how municipalities
and industrial waste are managed. One of them is the environmental hazard
of an open dump. Recognising the importance and the need to protect the
environment, the concept of sanitary landfill was introduced for the first
time in Selangor in 1995 to accommodate the safe disposal of 3,000 tonnes
of domestic waste a day from the population of Selangor.
